The Bel Esprit Cultural Institute kicked off its campaign to bring over 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for the 2017-18 academic year to children across Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Brazil, Colombia, Senegal, Dominican Republic and more through Hold Fast to Dreams: Operation HOPE.
On Tuesday, August 22, we reunited with a group of 65 children in Ravine à Couleuvres and the teachers of 160 students in Arcahaie in the Artibonite Department of Haiti. The children were asked to write down what they intend to be when they grow up. The message to these Beautiful Spirits was: "We are not here to give you cool, new things every school year. We are here to support YOUR dreams. We are here to support your teachers in helping you to achieve those dreams. We are here to let you know that what you wrote on this piece of paper is what you need to focus on regardless of your surroundings. Haiti is waiting for YOU!" Words can not express the joy exchanged in giving and receiving.
The village of Ravine-à-Couleuvres is 130 kilometers outside of Port-Au-Prince, in the Artibonite region of Haiti. Ravine-à-Couleuvres was the scene of one of Toussaint Louverture's last battles against the French army.
